Communists for 'gun control'

Those who dub themselves "progressive" cannot tolerate a society in which the people have the power, or even the desire, to defend themselves and their interests, rather than rely on the government to do it.

Help put out the fire

Late to the party, as usual, I should long ago have added my voice to those of numerous other gun bloggers calling for support for a new documentary--"Assaulted: Civil Rights Under Fire."

When the subject of California’s gun control laws are discussed, rarely are they associated with the civil rights movement and the quest for equal rights for all. This film will compare the historical aspects of gun control targeting the indigenous tribes of North America and emancipated slaves through the Jim Crow era to today’s laws that favor elitists and denies the rights guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment to the most vulnerable in our society. The film takes a critical look at the original intent of the current California guns laws in contrast with crime and murder statistics before and since their implementation; and compares these laws to those of the adjacent states. Story threads also look at the myriad of concealed carry permitting processes across the state to illustrate that not all residents are treated equal.

Gun ownership, and even militia membership, becoming more popular, diverse

The Brady Campaign's Dennis "What People?" Henigan has complained in the past about media coverage of the militia movement that fails to portray those involved as racist terrorists. The fact that the Herald-Tribune refuses to paint them in that light, and that the same militia will soon be featured in programs on both MTV and National Geographic, will undoubtedly make him even more unhappy.

The Brady Campaign, VPC, CSGV and the Southern Poverty Law Center would all prefer that the public share their fear and loathing of militias. The question to ask them, perhaps, is if militias are "necessary to the security of a free state," then who are the "traitors" to America--the militia members, or those who oppose them? [More]

Obama straight up lies to Hispanic voters about 'Project Gunwalker'

What excuse for this lie will be offered in Obama's defense? Will it be claimed that it was just a "mistake"--that he still has not learned enough about the "Gunwalker" atrocity to have even figured out when it started (since presumably, even his most desperate defenders will not try to claim he forgot when his administration began)? If so, would Hispanic voters not be justified in asking how a president could be so callously indifferent about establishing the facts about a U.S. federal government operation that resulted in hundreds of dead Mexican citizens, and will undoubtedly continue to cause more deaths (on both sides of the border--and even farther abroad) for years to come?

Could Hispanic voters further be forgiven for wondering why an administration that sent thousands of the firearms Obama most wants banned as being "too dangerous" for private citizens, to brutal killers in Mexico, won't let Latinos have forks in Obama's presence? You can bet that there will be no "Project Forkwalker" under this administration. [More]

Only to those who believe that governments should get a free pass to commit evil with impunity. Those would be the same folks who clamor for a "government monopoly on force."

OIG 'Gunwalker' report does not 'exonerate' Holder, but is still whitewash

Remember also that, although the IG investigation covered only the DoJ, there were at least two other Cabinet-level departments involved in Operation Fast and Furious (Department of Homeland Security and Treasury, and it is difficult to imagine the State Department being left completely in the dark). IG Horowitz explained today that his investigation sought a voluntary interview with a DHS agent, but could not compel the agent to speak, because being outside the DoJ, the agent had the right to refuse--a right he exercised.

Somehow, then, we are expected to believe that this multiple Cabinet level department operation was going on without the head of the most central department knowing about it. [More]

Josh Horwitz laughably accuses gun rights advocates of disregarding Constitution

According to Horwitz, in order to have "faith" in the Constitution, one must believe that a power hungry government can be thwarted in its desires to usurp the power of the people, simply because words on parchment say that it must not. That is, obviously, a ludicrous notion. The Constitution itself protects nothing, unless it is enforced.

The enforcers must be the people--us--and enforcement may require something stronger than harsh language. The Founders knew this--knew that, as Edward R. Murrow said, "A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves." A disarmed citizenry--a citizenry that allows itself to be disarmed--is indeed "a nation of sheep." Obama administration colludes with Media Matters to bury 'Gunwalker' scandal

As has been observed previously, MM is well compensated for its rabidly pro-administration, anti-gun positions (by the same virulently anti-gun foundation on whose board Obama served for eight years), although that apparently hasn't stopped MM founder David Brock from making his own, sometimes illegal, armed security arrangements.

For "the most transparent administration ever," this one certainly likes to maintain tight control over what is said about it. [More]

Gun 'buy backs,' and using the enemies' own resources against them

Still, though, that does not mean that resourceful gun rights advocates cannot use these "buy backs" to come out ahead. A central Illinois gun rights group, Guns Save Life (sometimes called the Champaign County Rifle Association) has perfected this strategy (for years, and years), collecting junk guns, selling them to the "buy back," and using the proceeds to fund such worthy gun rights advocacy efforts as youth shooting camps (building the next generation of gun rights advocates).

Why we need 'high capacity' magazines: Because there are more than 10 Democrats

As has been pointed out elsewhere, party platforms fall far short of telling the whole story, because they are not binding on any individual politician within the party. Still, they do give a sense of the position that the party leadership would like to take the party. Viewed in that light, it becomes obvious that the Democrats want guns regulated to a draconian degree this country has never seen.
