Sen. Leahy says state marijuana laws 'should be respected'; what about gun laws?

Gun rights advocates and marijuana reform activists are not commonly regarded as natural allies, but in this case, they are fighting the same battle--the battle against a federal government that has usurped power to regulate things over which it has no legitimate authority. 1. The federal authorities want to use the "interstate commerce" clause to expand their jurisdiction. Their definition of "interstate commerce" is anything that ever crossed a state line. A thief steals a car in Florida, and it's a federal case, because the car was manufactured in Michigan. A mugger in Atlanta uses a (stolen) handgun, and it's federal case, because the gun was made in Connecticut. Soon, there will no longer be any such thing as state or local jurisdictions.
