IL gun-haters deny trying to attack gun rights--while advocating 2nd Amnd repeal

Actually Goodman, even with the Second Amendment, you can talk about "reasonable regulations on guns" all you want (heck--I'd be interested in hearing of such a regulation--doesn't seem possible in reference to a right that shall not be infringed). Just expect to be shouted down, or simply laughed out of the room.

If ISRA was planning to be confrontational and rude, good for them. King George III probably thought those pesky American colonists were rude, too. [More]

If gun makers opposed to 'microstamping' help murderers, so do CA police chiefs

Speaking of doubts about the efficacy of "microstamping" as a crime-fighting tool, for all the gun ban zealots' complaints about "the gun lobby" suppressing research-based solutions to "gun violence," there was a bill in Congress in 2010 providing for the Attorney General to arrange with the National Academy of Sciences to complete a study on microstamping. The bill was introduced by Representative Dan Boren (D-OK), and had eight co-sponsors, three of whom were also Democrats. As it turns out, all nine can point to at least reasonably pro-gun voting records and fairly high NRA grades.

Not a single proponent of "microstamping" in Congress supported this bipartisan plan for scientific study of the technology. It's almost as if they lacked confidence in what would be found in such a study, even one coordinated by an Attorney General with a clear hostility to gun rights, and a long history of manipulating junk "science" to undermine those rights. Rumored Bloomberg shift from guns to immigration likely only a shift in tactics

Bloomberg is now supporting even "pro-gun Democrats," because Democrat control of Congress bodes well for oppressive gun laws, even with a few voices of dissent against the "gun control" agenda. A huge influx of newly legal voters from cultures where draconian government control over private firearm ownership is an unquestioned matter of course does the same thing. Bloomberg can hardly be unaware of that. [More]

'Progressive' says kill 'plutocrats' and 'climate tyrants,' or 'purge' 2nd Amnd.

For all his silly yammering about "plutocrats," and "government climate tyranny," Walker does suggest (perhaps inadvertently) one valid point. As Jeff Snyder wrote in his superb "Walter Middy's Second Amendment" essay, there is a very real danger that if the government leaves enough of the right to keep and bear arms alone, liberty advocates who insist on focusing exclusively on the single issue of gun rights will submit to tyranny on every other front, while telling themselves that they are free, because they still have the guns--guns that they will never actually use to safeguard their liberty.

The solution, though, is not to surrender an inch of ground on gun rights, but to become more vigilant against all threats to liberty. [More]

Connecticut throws 'assault weapon' registration party, (almost) nobody comes

Whether or not some kind of gun registration amnesty becomes law (over the governor's objections), it appears clear that the Connecticut government is about to discover that passing forcible citizen disarmament laws is the easy part. It's the enforcement that tends to be difficult--and dangerous. That is precisely as it should be. [More]

Proposed new IL medical marijuana rules force choice: Medicine or self-defense

That, of course, begs the question of why the state apparently intends to do the feds' job when it comes to enforcing disarmament of patients and their caregivers, but is simultaneously willing to actively defy the federal government on the issue of legal marijuana in the first place. [More]

Rejecting gun laws on grounds that criminals won't obey them is not 'anarchy'

No combination of laws will ever make the crimes of rape, murder, assault, armed robbery, etc. disappear, but the laws against these evils are necessary, to at the very least provide a mechanism for removing the perpetrators of these crimes from society, before they commit that evil again. Laws against certain kinds of guns or ammunition, or possessing guns in certain places, etc., on the other hand, criminalize behavior that is in no way immoral or harmful to society, and in fact criminalize behavior that might be necessary to preserve one's life and liberty. California state senator believes in ghosts--and 'gun control'

The sidebar video, by the way, in which de León attempts to justify the bill, in less than a minute exhibits a level of cluelessness about firearms that might exceed that of U.S. Rep. Carolyn "What's a Barrel Shroud?" McCarthy (D-NY). De León probably introduces multiple "gun control" bills every year (he, in fact, openly supports racial profiling for government scrutiny of ammunition purchases), despite knowing nothing about them, and the people of California apparently accept that state of affairs.

Sound like the kind of people credulous enough to be frightened by ghost stories, don't they? [More]

Florida movie theater 'popcorn shooter's' rarely acknowledged 'Only One' status

That's weird--all those signs did nothing to stop a police captain from allegedly murdering a man? It's almost as if we cannot trust our security to either "Only Ones," or to signs declaring guns verboten. [More]

By anti-gun 'logic,' Weinstein plans to contribute to millions of deaths

So if the public health "studies" are to be trusted, and if Weinstein's ability to dramatically alter society's view of guns with a movie is as great as he evidently believes it to be, NRA members should be very nervous. Hmm . . . come to think of it, I guess there's nothing to worry about, then. [More]

Missouri's '2nd Amendment Preservation Act' should have better chance this year

The states, of course, must trump unconstitutional federal laws, and those federal laws that violate both the Second and Tenth Amendments are certainly that--but acknowledging that would be impossible for someone whose entire career is a left wing Democrat attempt to go federal leviathan crazy. Ethical gun makers shun money from anti-American governments from Pakistan to CA

Government business is big business, and to decline it is to decline big money. These companies clearly decided that the money was less important to them than adherence to the principle of refusing to arm the enemies of the American people--the people who might one dark day be left with no choice but to fight those enemies. That's not behavior consistent with unprincipled greed. That's patriotism. [More]

'Bump fire' triggers could be Feinstein's next 'sky is falling' moment

And thus, very soon, Feinstein might be telling us we have a new reason to fear "assault weapons," which is her way of saying that she has a new reason to fear them. The more the better, as far as I'm concerned--liberty depends on oath-breaking government officials fearing the righteous wrath of the people. [More]

'Smart' AR-15 sure to give gun prohibitionist lobby a case of the vapors

Speaking personally, I'd rather rely on training and long practice than on complex, presumably somewhat delicate (and expensive) electronics (although I admittedly do not have anything approaching that level of proficiency at the moment), but if the double evil of "assault weapons" that are also "sniper rifles" scares the forcible citizen disarmament extremists, I'm glad it exists. Now if someone could figure out how to 3-D print them . . . [More]

NPR, CSGV think lack of military service reduces one's authority on gun rights

I have never asked anyone to give my views any more weight because of my stint in the Army, and I will never claim that a person who has never served is therefore less qualified to comment on gun rights and "gun control." Military service, past or present, plays no role in one's authority on the issue of the right to keep and bear arms--and neither does lack of such service--unless Everitt wants to argue that Timothy McVeigh was more qualified on the issue than was, say, Sarah Brady. Mother Jones frets about 'Reddit loophole' for gun sales

But even that--efficient communication between buyers and sellers of firearms--is unacceptable to the gun prohibitionist lobby. Violating the Second Amendment is not enough for them--they want to control how one talks about gun sales, as well.

Update: This is just too funny. [More]

Bloomberg giving up on 'gun control'? Very large grain of salt needed

These are not the actions of someone verging on "giving up on 'gun control.'" Bloomberg's ego and lust for power are unlikely to allow him to give up. Just as mass shooters tend not to give up until they meet armed resistance, Bloomberg should not be expected to give up on his evil until met with resistance he cannot overcome.

That may very well end up needing to be armed resistance, as well. [More]

They clamor for 'universal background checks,' but really want universal denials

To the anti-gun zealots, the only thing wrong with "universal background checks" is that as things stand now, many Americans can pass them. That, clearly, is not acceptable to them. [More]

More questions--and more answers--needed about 'armor piercing' ammo standards

More fundamental even than that, though, is the question of what relevance to a Constitutionally guaranteed, fundamental human right can "sporting purposes" have in the first place? That's a troubling question even before the unsavory origins of this pernicious idea of limiting private citizens' access to life and liberty preserving firepower is considered.

The Second Amendment--10% of the Bill of Rights--was not written to protect the right of the people to keep and bear sporting goods. Those who do not want to see the American people playing "Kill the Tyrant" would be well-advised to separate official recognition of the right to keep and bear arms from "sporting purposes." [More]

'Gun control' collaborator Dick Metcalf compares self to victims of tyranny

Metcalf had every right to state his views as he did last month. Likewise, though, those of us who find those views as reprehensible as those promoted by NAMBLA have every right to let anyone who continues to do business with him know that we will no longer be doing business with them, and they have every right to dissolve that business relationship. New 'assault weapon' poll gives new reason to be glad US is not a 'democracy'

The public can vote to ban so-called "assault weapons" if it wants. A majority can even vote to confiscate those we already own. They need to remember, though, that to paraphrase Mike Vanderboegh, even after the polls close, the armed citizen still gets a vote. That would be a very ugly campaign, and one that the pro-forcible disarmament camp would lose--badly. [More]

In upholding NY's 'SAFE Act,' judge makes surprising (inadvertent?) admission

In saying that, he is obviously also saying that "the very features that increase a weapon's dangerousness to the public at large also increase its utility for self-defense [especially for the disabled]"--an admission you almost never hear from those who seek to ban so-called "assault weapons."

Once we reach that point--that the features that supposedly give the state cause to ban a class of firearms used in a tiny percentage of violence also make those firearms eminently useful for self-defense--a ban assumes that a would-be "assault weapon" owner intends mass carnage, rather than self-defense. Gee, Judge--Department of Precrime much? [More]

Resolved to be a 'gun criminal'

Sadly, I lack the boldness of Mike Vanderboegh, with his open, in-your-face "Toys for Totalitarians" campaign (also described here by National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea, and here and here by National Conservative Examiner Anthony Martin). I'll not take the risk of openly posting the details of my "gun crimes," thus making my defiance a strictly personal, symbolic effort.

Still, it's a symbol not without value--at least to me. It's my reminder to myself that I do have a line in the sand, that I do have too much pride to accept the government's pat on the head for being a good little "law abiding gun owner."

For this year, and all the years remaining to me, or until the laws comply with the Constitutional mandate of shall not be infringed, I resolve to be a "gun criminal," as morality demands. [More]
