The thing is, if Democrats truly want to neutralize the gun rights issue as something that their political enemies can take advantage of, that's easily done. All they have to do is unite behind the Constitutionally guaranteed, fundamental human right of the individual to keep and bear arms. To do so would be both tactically and Constitutionally sound.
