NRA endorses anti-gun extremist John McCain in AZ Republican Senate primary

What might be the least well known, but arguably the most egregious, of McCain's betrayals of gun owners came in 2004. That year, he voted for a bill that included not only his own amendment to close the "gun show loophole," but also Senator Feinstein's (D-CA) amendment to extend the ban on so-called "assault weaons."

That is what I call an "anti-gun extremist"--one who has the NRA's backing. [More]

A government monopoly on force . . . at the flick of a switch

Has national park carry saved its first lives?

None of this, obviously, proves the hikers' claim of legitimate self-defense, but I think it lends some credence to it, and to the assertion that one or both hikers would very likely be dead if they'd both been unarmed, as the law had required until this February. When the national parks rule change was being debated, opponents of the change heaped ridicule on the idea of needing to defend oneself in national parks. [More]

Will British gun laws get any more restrictive? Is that even possible?

The point is that someone sick enough to commit mass evil will either acquire what he needs despite laws banning that acquisition, or make do with what he can get--no "assault weapons" bans, background checks, magazine capacity limits, closure of mythical "gun show loopholes," etc., are going to stop him. Mexico City newspaper points to source of drug cartels' guns--the government

That brings us nicely to MexiData's "An Inside Look at Mexican Guns and Arms Trafficking." Quoting the Mexico City newspaper El Universal, it tells us about a Mexican "crime gun" source that Calderón, the Brady Campaign, the Violence Policy Center, and others would like us not to know about, because it's obvious that no combination of restrictions on American civilians can do anything about it.

A percentage of the weapons, the seller said, come from Mexico via Ministry of Defense personnel who provide [them] in part from weapons seized in raids, or stolen from the ministry's own arsenal.

Does arrest of California man mean that Mayor Daley is 'more equal than others'?

Of course we do know of numerous differences in the circumstances of Daley's attempt to "scare" the reporter, and Fox's alleged threat. Daley was in the same room as the reporter, talking to him from a few feet away, while Fox was calling from thousands of miles away. Daley was clearly holding ("brandishing," perhaps?) a weapon at the time of his intent to cause fear, while there would be no way of knowing over the phone whether or not Fox was actually armed. Finally, Daley was speaking to a reporter who presumably does not have a security detail, and cannot even legally own--much less carry--a handgun in Chicago, while Daley has tax-payer funded, heavily armed bodyguards to protect him. Gun-grabbing Senate candidate Mark Kirk also grabs unearned military honors

Not a great time to be caught in this kind of lie, Congressman--not only right when Richard Blumenthal is still trying to recover from revelations of his invented military heroism, but on Memorial Day weekend, too.

So what does this have to do with gun rights? Mark Kirk may be the most ant-gun Republican in Congress. He sponsored a bill to ban so-called "assault weapons" in 2008 (and another bill to close something he calls the "fire sale loophole" He's a co-sponsor of H.R. 2159, to give the Attorney General unilateral power to block gun purchases by anyone he designates a "suspected terrorist." He's one of the most active Congressional supporters of NYC Mayor Bloomberg's Mayors Against Illegal Guns, voicing support for closing the mythical "gun show loophole," and requiring background checks to work in a gun store.
