U.S. State Department is major arms supplier to Mexican drug syndicates

If the Obama administration is willing to use the Department of Justice that way, why not the State Department, too? Secretary of State Clinton is hardly likely to have any philosophical objections to the goal of more restrictive U.S. gun laws. So why not approve hundreds of millions of dollars worth of weapons sales to the notoriously corrupt Mexican government, knowing full well that many of the guns will end up in criminal hands? A Bushmaster AR-15 (as mentioned in the above-quoted WikiLeaks cable), after all, when dutifully traced by the BATFE, will just show up as another "assault weapon" from the U.S. And another justification to infringe that which shall not be infringed.
