If gun makers opposed to 'microstamping' help murderers, so do CA police chiefs

Speaking of doubts about the efficacy of "microstamping" as a crime-fighting tool, for all the gun ban zealots' complaints about "the gun lobby" suppressing research-based solutions to "gun violence," there was a bill in Congress in 2010 providing for the Attorney General to arrange with the National Academy of Sciences to complete a study on microstamping. The bill was introduced by Representative Dan Boren (D-OK), and had eight co-sponsors, three of whom were also Democrats. As it turns out, all nine can point to at least reasonably pro-gun voting records and fairly high NRA grades.

Not a single proponent of "microstamping" in Congress supported this bipartisan plan for scientific study of the technology. It's almost as if they lacked confidence in what would be found in such a study, even one coordinated by an Attorney General with a clear hostility to gun rights, and a long history of manipulating junk "science" to undermine those rights. Bloomberg is now supporting even "pro-gun Democrats," because Democrat control of Congress bodes well for oppressive gun laws, even with a few voices of dissent against the "gun control" agenda. For all his silly yammering about "plutocrats," and "government climate tyranny," Walker does suggest (perhaps inadvertently) one valid point. As Jeff Snyder wrote in his superb "Walter Middy's Second Amendment" essay, there is a very real danger that if the government leaves enough of the right to keep and bear arms alone, liberty advocates who insist on focusing exclusively on the single issue of gun rights will submit to tyranny on every other front, while telling themselves that they are free, because they still have the guns--guns that they will never actually use to safeguard their liberty.

The solution, though, is not to surrender an inch of ground on gun rights, but to become more vigilant against all threats to liberty. [More]

Rejecting gun laws on grounds that criminals won't obey them is not 'anarchy'

No combination of laws will ever make the crimes of rape, murder, assault, armed robbery, etc. disappear, but the laws against these evils are necessary, to at the very least provide a mechanism for removing the perpetrators of these crimes from society, before they commit that evil again. Laws against certain kinds of guns or ammunition, or possessing guns in certain places, etc., on the other hand, criminalize behavior that is in no way immoral or harmful to society, and in fact criminalize behavior that might be necessary to preserve one's life and liberty. California state senator believes in ghosts--and 'gun control'

The sidebar video, by the way, in which de León attempts to justify the bill, in less than a minute exhibits a level of cluelessness about firearms that might exceed that of U.S. Rep. Carolyn "What's a Barrel Shroud?" McCarthy (D-NY). De León probably introduces multiple "gun control" bills every year (he, in fact, openly supports racial profiling for government scrutiny of ammunition purchases), despite knowing nothing about them, and the people of California apparently accept that state of affairs.

I have never asked anyone to give my views any more weight because of my stint in the Army, and I will never claim that a person who has never served is therefore less qualified to comment on gun rights and "gun control." Military service, past or present, plays no role in one's authority on the issue of the right to keep and bear arms--and neither does lack of such service--unless Everitt wants to argue that Timothy McVeigh was more qualified on the issue than was, say, Sarah Brady. These are not the actions of someone verging on "giving up on 'gun control.'" Bloomberg's ego and lust for power are unlikely to allow him to give up. Just as mass shooters tend not to give up until they meet armed resistance, Bloomberg should not be expected to give up on his evil until met with resistance he cannot overcome.

New 'assault weapon' poll gives new reason to be glad US is not a 'democracy'

The public can vote to ban so-called "assault weapons" if it wants. A majority can even vote to confiscate those we already own. They need to remember, though, that to paraphrase Mike Vanderboegh, even after the polls close, the armed citizen still gets a vote. In upholding NY's 'SAFE Act,' judge makes surprising (inadvertent?) admission

In saying that, he is obviously also saying that "the very features that increase a weapon's dangerousness to the public at large also increase its utility for self-defense [especially for the disabled]"--an admission you almost never hear from those who seek to ban so-called "assault weapons."

Once we reach that point--that the features that supposedly give the state cause to ban a class of firearms used in a tiny percentage of violence also make those firearms eminently useful for self-defense--a ban assumes that a would-be "assault weapon" owner intends mass carnage, rather than self-defense. Resolved to be a 'gun criminal'

Sadly, I lack the boldness of Mike Vanderboegh, with his open, in-your-face "Toys for Totalitarians" campaign (also described here by National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea, and here and here by National Conservative Examiner Anthony Martin). I'll not take the risk of openly posting the details of my "gun crimes," thus making my defiance a strictly personal, symbolic effort.

Still, it's a symbol not without value--at least to me. It's my reminder to myself that I do have a line in the sand, that I do have too much pride to accept the government's pat on the head for being a good little "law abiding gun owner."
