Biden says state troopers at Sandy Hook 'need some help'; perhaps disarmament?

If seeking mental health care comes to be seen as grounds for disarmament, more and more cops and military personnel--you know, the "Only Ones" we should trust with guns--will be reluctant to seek help for their Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This, at a time when over a decade of harrowing combat in Afghanistan and Iraq is affecting hundreds of thousands of veterans. Is that what we want?

The objective here is not to imply that those Connecticut state troopers who have sought and received help after witnessing the horrifying aftermath of Sandy Hook should be disarmed for "mental illness," but to illustrate the dangers of failing to tread extremely lightly with any plan to suppress gun rights for reasons of mental health. That's today's St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner. Please give it a look, and tell a friend.

The 1968 Gun Control Act prohibits gun ownership by anyone with a mental illness that might make him a danger to himself or others. That makes perfect sense. But now the politicians obviously intend to expand the definition of mental illness, making it so broad and vague that they can interpret it any way they choose.

That is indeed the concern, Anon.

"Mental illness" has been used by tyrants throughout history to disarm and imprison political opponents.
You don't agree with the ruling class' agenda? (Or are unwilling to keep silent about your opposition?)
You are clearly mentally I'll, and they have their own in house doctors who will certify it.
Does anyone REALLY believe that Obama and his cohorts are any less willing to use such tactics than were Stalin, Mao, Hitler, et al?
Don't be so naive.
They'll do it in a heartbeat.
After all, returning veterans, and all of those folks who believe in that silly, outdated, inconvenient Constitution, oppose abortion on demand, gay marriage, and other party approved policies, supported Ron Paul or Bob Barr, or hold any other non-leftist, non PC views MUST be insane, right? They've already advised law enforcement that all of those folks are dangerous domestic right Wong extremist terrorists.
DHS and other alphabet agencies have recently purchased over 1.8 BILLION rounds of hollow point ammo – enough to shoot every man, woman, and child in the country 5 times or more – ammo that’s illegal for military use under international law, and have just ordered more and an additional 7,000 FULLY AUTOMATIC "personal defense" weapons. How does anyone with the capability of rational thought escape the conclusion that our government is preparing for a war on its own citizens?

No argument here:

The government's war at home

Government prepares for war with the people, and mass media approves

Obama wants to ban 'weapons of war' for Americans, use them to kill Americans

In itself, I have no objection to law enforcement having firepower, including hollow-point bullets and assault rifles. I wouldn't even worry about DHS if their jurisdiction were limited, and if they were only going after real terrorists (e.g., Al Qaeda). But, as with "mental illness," the Obama administration will make the definition of "terrorism" so vague it will include anyone who disagrees with the ruling party about anything.

For years, bleeding heart liberals opposed the idea of state and local police having adequate firepower (e.g., hollow point ammunition and assault rifles). It was "inhumane" to use such weapons against armed robbers. Now, those same liberals are OK with DHS having that kind of firepower to use against "domestic terrorists" (i.e., anyone to the right of Barbara Boxer and Michael Moore).

Sen. Feinstein is already implying that returning veterans are all whacked out from PTSD and can't be allowed to own weapons. www.cspanvideo.org/program/311363-1

I wonder what Feinstein's excuse for her mental imbalance is.
