As quoted by Gun Owners of America, from a 1999 interview in Vanity Fair:
"Gun control? It's the best thing you can do for crooks and gangsters," Gravano said. "I want you to have nothing. If I'm a bad guy, I'm always gonna have a gun. Safety locks? You will pull the trigger with a lock on, and I'll pull the trigger. We'll see who wins.That's just the kind of voter this administration wants, and now it's working to get more of them. [More]

Of course, Obama and Holder not only want convicted felons permanently barred from owning guns, they want law-abiding citizens barred, too. The liberal/progressive mentality: either everyone can have it, or no one can have it. If criminals can't legally own guns, then neither can honest people. If a panhandler can't afford an SUV, then someone who works 70 hours a week can't be allowed to have one. If a guy who never served in the military is not eligible for veteran's benefits, then someone who served in Iraq and Afghanistan can't get benefits, either.
A person is either honest, competent, and responsible, or he is not. It's one or the other. So, either a person should have full citizenship rights, or he should not. Obviously, some people (criminals, insane people) should not be allowed to own guns. Just as obviously, those same people should not drive, vote, or have custody of children. But try explaining that to a Progressive, who wants you to be prohibited from owning a gun, but who wants a convicted child molester to be able to get a job in a day care center.
Voting, like owning a gun, is a big responsibility. An armed robber can use a gun to force his victims to hand over money and/or property. But a vote can be used for the same purpose. A welfare recipient can vote in a politician who promises to increase welfare benefits. Where will the government get the money? By raising taxes on workers. So, that welfare recipient is using a vote the same way a mugger uses a gun or knife: to take money from people who had to earn it. Therefore, anyone who can't legally own a gun should not be allowed to vote.
If you have a high IQ, served honorably in the military, work 60-70 hours a week, pay taxes, and have never been in any trouble with the law, then the AARP and ACLU still say that you should not be allowed to own a gun. But if you are a high school dropout, a drug abuser, and a convicted armed robber, then the ACLU will protect your right to vote, and your right to have children that you can't afford to support. And if you have Alzheimer's Syndrome and 20/1000 eyesight, the AARP will protect your right to drive your Hummer on the freeway, northbound in the southbound lane of traffic.
