'Gun control,' and the lessons of Boston

What's the relevance? If one or two men can so thoroughly shake the security apparatus of the United States, the idea that the Second Amendment's protection against tyranny is outdated, because the U.S. is now a modern superpower, and therefore "resistance is futile," is simply not going to hold up. Imagine, after all, what even a small militia group of perhaps a dozen members could do, if the battle were not between terrorists and a country whose people can still convince themselves that they're relatively free; but between a determined and angry citizenry who will no longer submit to enduring a long train of abuses and usurpations, and the government perpetrating those abuses. Now imagine a couple dozen of those militia groups. Now imagine hundreds of them.

. . .

And with that final, most important lesson, class is dismissed. Once the people know that they have the power--and the responsibility--to defend their freedom, it's time to move out of the classroom, and to the gun range and training grounds. [More]

That's today's St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner. Please give it a look, and tell a friend.

I wonder how many people in Boston, ordered by the police to cower in their homes, were saying, "Thank goodness I don't have a gun handy"?

That is true that no one ever complained about owning guns in an event like that of terror. There is no worry with guns as long as you have them properly stored in gun safes canada in your home.

I appreciate reading about all aspects of gun control, especially during a time of distress, such as in Boston. These events are terrifying, but the gun control debate is complicated and multi-faceted.

I try to address it in a fictional setting in my new book "Illusions: A Republic Lost." I'd be happy to share more info!

The American right to self-defense via firearm, protected by the Second Amendment, is no doubt an important one especially in cases like the Boston bombings. Statistics from the Department of Justice prove that the rise of gun ownership in America has accompanied a decline in homicide rates. Our country is factually safer as more people chose to own firearms as weapons of self-defense. Although tragic events such as Columbine and the Sandy Hook shootings occurred, gun control efforts likely would not have prevented them. These events involved criminal-minded people who were willing to break many laws regardless of the consequences, just like the brothers responsible for the Boston bombings. Tragic events will never be fully preventable, but it is absolutely necessary to protect our right to defend ourselves with the use of a gun, especially in the midst of these situations.
