If there's anything to be said for Chicago's handgun ban, it's that it demonstrates--for those of us who needed the demonstration--that mandated defenselessness does not "work," except to produce serfs for those who would rule, and prey for those who would be predators [More]That's today's St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner. What 'works' in Chicago . . . ?
GRE Round Up, May 31
There's some good stuff being turned out by the Gun Rights Examiners. I hope you're availing yourself of it, and importantly, sharing these links via emails, on blogs and forums, with your local newspaper editor, etc.
A common complaint is media bias and absence of representation for "our side."
These people work hard to change that and ask for nothing from those of us their labors serve other than to help spread the word. I hope no one thinks that's too much to ask.
Here are their latest offerings:

Gun-grabbing Senate candidate Mark Kirk also grabs unearned military honors
Not a great time to be caught in this kind of lie, Congressman--not only right when Richard Blumenthal is still trying to recover from revelations of his invented military heroism, but on Memorial Day weekend, too. That's today's St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner. Please give it a read (a digg?) and tell a friend.
So what does this have to do with gun rights? Mark Kirk may be the most ant-gun Republican in Congress. He sponsored a bill to ban so-called "assault weapons" in 2008 (and another bill to close something he calls the "fire sale loophole" He's a co-sponsor of H.R. 2159, to give the Attorney General unilateral power to block gun purchases by anyone he designates a "suspected terrorist." He's one of the most active Congressional supporters of NYC Mayor Bloomberg's Mayors Against Illegal Guns, voicing support for closing the mythical "gun show loophole," and requiring background checks to work in a gun store. Mayor Daley: 'Guns is not the answer'
So, Mayor, if "guns is not the answer," what, may I ask, is your answer? Please don't tell me that reliance on the police is the answer--not only have courts ruled time and again that the police have no duty to protect the individual (and how could they?), Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis has himself recently acknowledged that the police are more or less powerless to prevent homicides inside homes. In other words, Blagojevich thinks Daley should threaten several state legislator's "main" jobs (for the city of Chicago), to "muscle" them into more aggressively pursuing the "gun control" agenda. About that "main" job--Blagojevich dismisses the "part-time, $75,000 a year job" as if he's unaware how many thousands of Illinois families would be thrilled to have that kind of annual income--but never mind that. Marriott Hotel chain does not want guests prepared to defend themselves--so be it
Actually, if you need another reason not to stay at a Marriott--it would be hard to find a better one than the fact that their policy of mandated defenselessness renders guests vulnerable to being brutally raped, for which Marriott then tries to blame the victim. At least I've not heard of them trying to blame the victims of various murders who were made not one whit safer by Marriott's policy. Mexican president criticizes U.S. gun laws--again
Calderón is clearly banking on Americans being unaware that correlation does not equal causation. In this case, a causal link is clearly implausible. For one thing, the dramatic spike in drug cartel violence started in 2006--two years after the expiration of the ban. From a chronological perspective, a much stronger correlation can be drawn between the massively escalating violence and Calderón's assumption of office in 2006, followed ten days later by his implementation of Mexico's version of the "War on Drugs." So if I follow correctly, the concern is that terrorists will storm an airport, and, what . . . commandeer a plane? Seems a rather odd way to go about the business of terrorism. Apparently terrorists agree, because I've never heard of any trying such a thing, anywhere, ever. Money no object for Mexican drug cartels shopping for guns
The gold-plated, diamond-encrusted guns show that they can--and cheerfully do--spend any amount of money on their guns. Does anyone seriously believe that any laws can be put in place, that can't be easily circumvented with that kind of money? Gun 'buy backs' and math, Chicago-style
Even with the "though the amount actually offered for any particular weapon varied" caveat, that sounds like quite a shortfall. Where did the difference come from? The city budget? Last summer, we were told that the city's 2010 budget was more than a half billion dollars short. That's today's St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner. A read (a digg?) and a word to a friend will all be most welcome.
Chicago math--maybe if the Chicago Public Schools system placed less emphasis on lobbying for more draconian gun laws, and more on simple arithmetic . . . [More]

SWAT raid on Columbia, MO family just one more reason to end 'no-knock' raids (and 'war on drugs')
That's not to deny that sometimes real cops do raid the right house, and catch a real drug dealer, with no casualties. Wonderful--someone illegally selling plant parts is going to prison. I feel safer already. That's today's St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner. Please read (and digg?) and spread the word.
The War on Guns is intimately joined to the "War on Drugs," and they're both really the War on Liberty. [More]

Proposed 'terror gap' laws: Not only unconstitutional, but laughably ineffective
Since we're not hearing such shouting, we can logically conclude that the number of lives that would be saved by such legislation would be right around zero (and that's without getting into the fact that making guns harder to keep and bear legally reduces the number of people who will have lifesaving firepower on hand when they need it). The inevitable next step toward the "solution"? A more expansive terrorist "watch" list (despite it already being bloated to the point of uselessness), of course--which takes us right back to yesterday's discussion: we'll all be "suspected terrorists." If 'gun control' advocates get their way, we'll ALL be 'suspected terrorists'
When political dissent is labeled "sedition," and when reminding the American people and their elected officials that the Second Amendment exists as a bulwark against tyranny is branded as "terroristic," the state-worshipers who see The People as pawns of the state have entered into a cold war with those of us who will not surrender are freedom. That's today's St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner. 'Enforce existing gun laws' means enforcing defenselessness in Illinois

Not just Mexico anymore--now it's Canada that wants U.S. citizens disarmed
Frustrated by pro-gun gains made in many state legislatures, some high profile court cases, and plunging public support for forcible citizen disarmament (aka "gun control") measures, the gun haters increasingly appear to be exploring their options to bypass our legislative process, our courts, our Constitution, and the very will of the American people, to impose draconian restrictions on gun ownership via international means. Chicago Mayor Daley's intention to sue gun manufacturers in the World Court is the latest manifestation of the international gambit (see links below the photograph for more proposed international attacks on Americans' gun rights). Forcible citizen disarmament advocacy, and the smearing of the militias
To the Brady Campaign, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, the Southern Poverty Law Center, etc., no action by a "democratically elected" government can be legitimately resisted with force. If, in other words, the people decided, via Constitutionally approved process, to repeal the 13th Amendment, and re-institute slavery, the newly enslaved would be morally obligated to accept their new status. That's today's St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner. Resisting tyranny: Neither a new idea, nor an invention of the 'gun lobby'
Josh Horwitz, Dennis Henigan, and all else who claim that the "insurrectionist idea" is an NRA marketing ploy, are, to put it simply, lying. If there has been any recent (within the last few decades), radical reinterpretation of the Second Amendment, it has come in the form of "I support the Second Amendment--I'm a hunter!" as if 10% of the Bill of Rights was devoted to the protection of sport. Gun bills on the move in Illinois and Missouri
As originally written, HB 5751 would ban not only the sale and possession of the "scary" items mentioned above, but also their manufacture. Perhaps surprisingly, given the state's political climate, Illinois has several manufacturers of such items. In past years, in arguing against those bans, it has been pointed out that lawmakers who send good jobs and tax revenue out of the state are doing the state's economy no favors. That, apparently, is why the amendment would permit manufacture of "assault weapons," etc., but only for sale out of state. That's today's St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner (better late than never). Please read it (digg it?) and spread the word.
What, though, is the underlying message that sends? If these "weapons of war" are the scourge on society that Rep. Acevedo clearly believes them to be, is it not rather unprincipled of him to allow them to be inflicted on other states, simply to protect the jobs and tax revenue? Or is it that Illinois residents are somehow lacking the restraint that prevents residents of other states from shooting up their communities with Illinois-manufactured "assault weapons"? [More]
