If 'assault weapon' ban fails, 'bump fire' stocks may be consolation prize

Nevertheless, when she announced her "assault weapon" ban bill, she promised to ban such stocks, as one of the "improvements" over her 1994 ban:

  • Banning dangerous aftermarket modifications and workarounds.
    • Bump or slide fire stocks, which are modified stocks that enable semi-automatic weapons to fire at rates similar to fully automatic machine guns.
That language seems not to have survived in the actual text of Feinstein's S. 150, but that does not mean she has lost her passion to protect America from the plague of bump fire stocks (the next victim of "bump fire violence" will apparently be the first, but don't count on that making any difference to Feinstein), as illustrated in an
Associated Press article yesterday . . . [More]

Obama wants to ban 'weapons of war' for Americans, use them to kill Americans

Rep. Gowdy's best point, though, was reminding us that the unelected (and indeed unnamed) officials deciding which Americans are to be assassinated could very well be the very same paragons of moral virtue who authorized "Project Gunwalker."

Foreign soil, domestic soil--does it matter? If we can be "legally" killed while we travel, by our own government, on the basis of some faceless bureaucrat's suspicions (or his/her claim of such "suspicions") about "terrorist affiliations," are we supposed to be comforted when told that they cannot do it here (or that they have not--yet--claimed the "right" to do so)? Well, at least CSGV should be happy.

The Obama administration has again escalated its "cold war" against the American people. If American citizens are facing death by "weapons of war," those weapons will most likely be wielded by the U.S. government. Sounds like a good reason to expand the firepower available to private citizens. Speaking of which . . . [More]

New St. Louis Police Chief dismisses right to keep and bear arms as a 'belief'

Meet the new boss; same as the old boss--except that even the old boss doesn't seem to have been so brazen as to openly dismiss the Second Amendment's protection of the individual's right to keep and bear arms as no more than a "belief."

Speaking of 'weapons of war' . . .

I guess it sorta makes a twisted kind of sense to call drone strikes on unconvicted, unindicted, and uncharged American citizens "legal, ethical, and wise," given the fact that we're told that law enforcement officers need the capability of "killing large numbers of people."

American hero becomes 'gun control's' latest exploitee

This means, of course, that people who genuinely do need mental health treatment, but who also do not want to be disarmed, will have a strong disincentive to seek that treatment--is that what we want?

Oh--there is of course one more reason the gun ban fanatics are celebrating Chief Petty Officer Kyle's murder: a great many of them despise American military heroes as much as they loathe gun rights advocates. [More]

Fun with math and MAIG

"Mayors Against Illegal Guns" claims to have "over 800" members. Whether or not that number includes mayors who have quit when they found out what kind of fanatical, extremist organization they'd gotten hooked up with, mayors long dead whom MAIG claims have signed MAIG's petitions after their deaths, and mayors who never joined, but MAIG claims anyway, is left unanswered.

According to Wikipedia, there are about 30,000 incorporated cities in the U.S., and thus about 30,000 mayors. That means MAIG is claiming about 2.67% of U.S. mayors.

Meanwhile, at least 18 of MAIG's finest have been charged with (and some already convicted of) serious crimes, including assault, possessing child pornography, attempted child molestation, and ironically, breaking gun laws. That comes to about 2.25% of MAIG's membership.

In other words, the percentage of U.S. mayors participating in Bloomberg's forcible citizen disarmament jihad is only marginally higher than the percentage of MAIG members convicted of or charged with serious crimes.

And we're supposed to let them tell us what our rights are?

CSGV thinks that acknowledging purpose of Second Amendment is a 'gotcha moment'

Recently, has-been comedian Jim Carrey claimed that the lives of "assault rifle" buyers are not worth protecting. Horwitz might be tempted to claim that Carrey is just an infantile blowhard clamoring for attention (no argument here, so far), and not representative of the "gun control" agenda, but CSGV has revealed its own wish for the deaths of those who dare to speak of the true purpose of the Second Amendment.

They hate us, they want us dead, and they have allies within the government. They are themselves a good reason to be armed. [More]

Senator Kirk wants to end gun trafficking to Chicago, unless BATFE does it

Interesting that Kirk would raise the issue of gun trafficking into Chicago as justification for yet another gun law. Interesting, because he seems not to have made so much as a peep about a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives scheme to deliberately "gunwalk" guns from Indiana to Chicago gangs.

This is hardly surprising behavior on Kirk's part. Kirk has been an enthusiastic backer of anti-gun extremist Andrew Traver as head of the BATFE (see photo above), and there are very real questions (still not answered) about the possibility of Traver's involvement in "Project Gunwalker." [More]

Descendant of Holocaust survivors wants us less capable of resisting holocausts

Knowing full well the epic scope of genocidal mass murder that can be perpetrated by a government, unless millions of determined and well armed "John Q. Publics" are prepared to stop it, he nevertheless wants to dramatically reduce the firepower available to the citizenry.

Feinstein presumes to legislate limits on Constitutional rights

Never mind all that, though, because it's irrelevant. Laws do not, can not impose limits on the Constitution. The reality is precisely the opposite--the Constitution imposes limits on what laws are legitimate (although those limits have very rarely been enforced over many decades).

Still, if Feinstein wants to argue that the right to keep and bear arms is unlimited, pending passage of her Intolerable Act, why not let her? Drinks are on the Senator--everyone enjoy a nice, tall glass of shall not be infringed. [More]

GOP, NRA may invent distinction between 'loopholes' at gun shows and away

This array of choices serve both the anti-gunners and the weak-kneed "allies" of gun rights advocates. The gun ban lobby wants the outright ban on private sales, but if that looks impossible, they'll take the still pretty big bite out of the apple that a gun show "loophole" closing bill represents (look for a legislative attack on the "internet gun sales 'loophole,'" as well). They know they can always come back for more next year, and the year after, etc., until they get it all.

Meanwhile, a flaccid GOP and NRA can claim "victory" (by virtue of having stopped the universal background check), despite gun shows (and maybe internet sales) having become vastly more heavily regulated. Note also that LaPierre, while laying down the fire and brimstone about universal background checks, also spent considerable time warning of the (very real) dangers of a national gun registry. Such a registry may not look particularly likely to pass any time soon, but by raising its menacing specter, he hopes to give gun rights advocates something else to cheer about when that threat is "defeated." Known 'gun criminal' David Gregory goes uncharged; life-saving hero may not

We are told in hysterical tones that the law so brazenly violated by David Gregory is absolutely essential to the safety of Americans (especially "the children"), but when he violates it, for cheap political theater, in an attempt to embarrass gun rights advocates, it is an outrage that prosecution was ever considered.

Meanwhile, a man who saves a child's life with a possibly "illegal" gun is potentially facing a full year or more in prison for doing so, and Greta Van Sustren and Howard Kurtz seem not to have uttered a peep in protest.

What does one call a society that excuses law-breaking done for the purpose of propagandizing a fabricated justification for still more freedom-crushing laws, but throws the book at someone whose "crime" was saving the life of a child? Whatever the name for such a society, it cannot be very complimentary. [More]

Oath keeping sheriffs pledge their lives to protect counties from 'gun control'

NRA unlikely to strongly fight private sales ban unless pushed to do so

For the NRA president not to even question that figure (or the fact that a Bureau of Justice Statistics study found that fewer than 1% of "crime guns" come from gun shows) seems close to a dereliction of duty. The increasingly likely looking prospect of abject surrender on the issue would be still much worse than that.

With NRA membership surging, leadership (if that's not too kind a term) appears poised to beat a hasty retreat. It's time for them to grow a spine--and they had better hurry--and they will only do so if we demand it. Drop them a line. [More]

What if the federal government threw a 'gun control' party, and nobody came?

Do the states (and at least one county) have much hope of backing the feds down? That might seem unlikely, given this regime's passion for disarming the citizenry. On the other hand, Obama recently announced the enforcing federal marijuana prohibition laws in states that have decided to defy them is not a "top priority," because the Obama government has "bigger fish to fry."

Granted, it would seem that American gun owners are now his "bigger fish," but if we resolve to be too big--and too dangerous--to "fry," he might just decide to give up trying to put citizens' rights on his stringer. Or perhaps he'll discover too late that he needs a bigger boat. [More]

Obama's illegal executive orders for 'gun control' undermine rule of law

The 'slippery slope' of 'gun control' is clearly very real, but not the point

We do not care if banning regime change rifles and "high capacity" magazines is as far down the slope as the gun prohibitionists want to go (and it isn't, anyway). Maintaining our access to these arms is worth the legal danger of defying such laws. If that defiance is met with the armed might of the government, it will be worth fighting and dying for--but even more worth killing for.

If we must make the slippery slope argument (and that argument does have some value--for pointing out to hunters who don't care about AR-15s that the next step will be banning their scoped bolt-action hunting rifles as scary "sniper rifles," for example), we need to stop pointing to a total, outright, confiscatory ban as the end point. The "government monopoly on force" secured by such a ban is instead merely the means to an end. What is that end? Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership can tell you. [More]

Call them 'regime change rifles'

To deny these arms' utility for combat is to distance them from the central scope of the Second Amendment's function.

So let us instead call them "regime change rifles." In the terrible (and less "unthinkable" every day) event of the rise of a tyrannical regime in the United States, effective fighting arms in the hands of millions of American citizens will be essential for overthrowing it. Furthermore, the banning of such arms will be one of the surest signs that "regime change" has already become necessary. [More]

Schumer wants retailers to get potential 'assaul weapon' ban off to early start

There is, of course, still another reason for Schumer to worry about sales of "assault weapons" in advance of any ban: the more of them in the hands of we the people, the more capable we will be in resisting Schumer's forcible citizen disarmament fantasy. In the end, what would be most "undermined" by a well-armed American citizenry is the government's ability to enforce the tyranny of "gun control," and even to survive the effort to do so. [More]

Biden not intelligent enough to reject 'smart guns'

Granted, Jeremy Shane can be dismissed as an idiot, and if he truly believes what he is spouting, the most primitive matchlock firearm in history is indeed a good deal "smarter" than he is (and a good deal more useful in stopping a would-be mass murderer of children in a school than his "smart" guns would be). And yet even so, his idiocy was not enough to keep him from a position of power in the federal government, and now he is presumably being paid by the mass media to shape public opinion.

Think government mass murder for 'gun control' can't happen here? It already has

The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence would, of course, argue that the Native Americans who fought back so bravely, so futilely against their butchers were wrong to do so, because the government must have a monopoly on political violence.

'Magazine control' will be made irrelevant even sooner than 'gun control' will

While "printing" so-called "assault weapons" is not quite ready for prime time--but getting closer every day (see sidebar video)--printing effective magazines is even closer. Consumer grade 3-D printers currently operate with plastic, rather than metal, which poses some difficulties in manufacturing effective firearms. Magazines, on the other hand, are a different story. Americans aren't buying 'assault weapons' just to have something to register

People don't buy expensive (especially expensive now) gear just to have something to turn over to Feinstein when she finally gets to say, "Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in." The kind of American most likely to want AR-15s tends also to be the type least eager to register them with the government--particularly not a government agency as historically hostile to private gun ownership as is the BATFE (our "most hated federal agency," before "Project Gunwalker").

IL Dems think 11-round magazines more dangerous than outdated nuclear plants

The first bill to get this treatment is Illinois House Bill 0815, which passed easily in the House back in May, by a 70-45-1 margin. What did HB 815 do, before Senator Dan Kotowski got hold of it yesterday? It dealt with nuclear power plant safety, requiring among other things that plant owners set aside money for improved monitoring and control gear. After Fukushima, that sounds like a pretty decent idea, does it not?

Not, apparently, to Sen. Kotowski. He believes that public safety in Illinois can better be served by banning 11-round and larger magazines, and imposing such a burdensome regulatory regime on shooting ranges as to make it economically unfeasible to operate them., so he introduced amendments to remove the nuclear safety language, and ban magazines and gun ranges. 'Insurrectionist' patches now available with Velcro backing

When I first offered the "CSGV-Designated 'Insurrectionist'" patches, I quickly came to realize that many would-be buyers would have been far more interested if the patches were Velcro-backed. Live and learn.

The good news is that I have sold enough of the "Treason Against Tyranny Is Fidelity To Liberty" patches to justify doing a second production run--this one with the Velcro backing. The "Constitutional Militia Ordnance Engineer" patch will probably never be offered with the Velcro backing--I just don't think the demand is there.

Anyway, the Velcro adds 20% to the price, so the per patch price for one or two is $6, $4.80 apiece for three or more (up to nine), and $3.60 for ten or more. You can still mix and match to get the volume discount. So one "Ordnance Engineer" patch, and two Velcro-backed "Treason Against Tyranny" patches would come $14.60 ($5 for the "Ordnance Engineer" plus 2x$4.80 for the two "Treason Against Tyranny").

Look good at your trial for "treason"!

Sarah Brady says 'time for debating is over'; she had better hope she is wrong

Every one of them had better hope they are wrong.

The reason for that is that there are two ways to end a debate about whether or not to trample a Constitutionally guaranteed, fundamental human right. One is for the would-be violators to admit defeat--something the forcible citizen disarmament lobby is clearly not doing--seeming, in fact, to be much emboldened by their opportunity to exploit the murdered children of Newtown, Connecticut.

The only other way out of the debate is for talks to be abandoned as hopeless. When that happens, the only thing left is open conflict. Winston Churchill had something to say about that--something Brady and her friends should take to heart.

While Churchill's "war-war" would be devastating to everyone in America, it would likely be rather less devastating to those of us who, as Andrew Breitbart said, "have the guns." So tell us, Mrs. Brady, shall it be "war-war"? [More]

Threat to private gun sales might be greater than threat to 'assault weapons'

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has (in)famously pushed hard to close the "gun show loophole," (Rick Santorum is another supposedly "conservative Republican" who has advocated closing the mythical "loophole") and even as late as 2008, at the NRA convention, stated that he believed "an accurate, fair and instant background check at guns shows is a reasonable requirement." Even so, the NRA endorsed him for president mere months afterward.

As the Sipsey Street Irregulars' Mike Vanderboegh frequently states, "Not even King George the Third was so grasping" as to attempt to impose such intrusive control over private commerce between individuals. Even so, patriotic Americans--before the term "Americans" really had much meaning--fought and won a seemingly unwinnable war to get out from under his tyranny.

Fitch's proposal will certainly get no support from St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay (we have talked about him before), who has (utterly unsurprisingly) chosen to join the ranks of vultures exploiting the dead for political advantage, calling for a ban of so-called "assault weapons," and even urging President Obama to short out the Constitutionally mandated system of separation of powers, and do an end run around Congress with an executive order (something else we have recently discussed).

Chief Fitch's proposal is not particularly likely to go very far. There will be more school massacres--perhaps, someday, one in Missouri. Those who reject Fitch's measure will then need to come to grips with the fact that they helped make it possible. [More]

Congressman wants murdered children 'exploited,' wants 'war' with NRA

Curiously, though, he seems not to have uttered a word of criticism of those now explicitly calling for the murder of NRA members and leadership. Or perhaps that is not so curious--he is the one calling for "war," after all, and war tends to involve killing.

It is somewhat puzzling that he seems to believe that he will be on the winning side. We do have the guns, after all--and the will to use them.

You want a "war," Nadler? Here's some free advice. [More]

St. Louis paper suggests dropping 1 infringement of gun rights, pursuing another

Even so, the ban could not pass without all the "loopholes" that so upset the VPC, and the 10-year "sunset" provision that lifted the ban in 2004. Then, of course, there is the 1994 shellacking of Congressional Democrats, attributed by Bill Clinton himself largely to anger over the ban, according to his autobiography.

What Democrats (and Republicans, for that matter) who wish to ban effective militia-capable firearms need to remember is that getting voted out of office should be the least of their worries. When the people vote from the rooftops, the polls never close. [More]

Chairman of Chicago City Council black caucus applauds demise of gun carry ban

Yep--the streets are too rife with gangs of brutal, predatory thugs for peaceable citizens to be permitted the means to effective self-defense.

Ethnic minorities tend to bear the brunt of forcible citizen disarmament laws, race-baiters' vile calumny that gun rights advocates are "the new KKK" notwithstanding. It is therefore gratifying to see the chairman of the black caucus supporting self-defense. If only his colleagues were as progressive as he. [More]

Fight for concealed carry in Illinois just beginning

“If we need to change the law, let us at least craft a law that is very severely constrained and narrowly tailored so that we don’t invite guns out of control on each of our city’s streets,” Currie said. “I don’t want people out of control wandering the streets with guns that are out of control.”

It takes a special kind of control freak to say "out of control" three times over the course of two sentences.

Yesterday, the good guys landed a telling blow. We will need more of them. [More]

'Plastic gun' ban would make even less sense now than in 1988

In other words, this ban would not make sense as an "airport security" measure even if "plastic gun" technology did exist. The only "sense" such a ban could make would be as a measure to ban every polymer-framed gun.

You do not have enough jackbooted thugs to enforce such a ban, Israel, or enough body bags to store them in after the attempt fails. [More]
