The dreaded .50 caliber 'assault pistol'

Nearly a year-and-a-half ago, I announced my plans to get an AR pistol chambered for .50 Beowulf. Some day, perhaps, I would come up with a practical application for it, but actually, practical applications aren't the point here. The point is that as a handgun (technically), an "assault weapon" (making it the dreaded "assault pistol"), and a .50 caliber gun, this single firearm constitutes a three-pronged attack on the tender sensibilities of the forcible disarmament advocates. I know, by the way, that the .50 Beowulf is vastly less powerful than the .50 BMG cartridge that so terrifies the other side, but most of them don't--they hear ".50 caliber," and visualize me knocking down jumbo jets at 30,000 feet.

One of my favorite statist civilian disarmers, Commissar . . . er, Illinois State Senator (and former executive director of the rabidly anti-gun Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence) Dan Kotowski, has made going after .50 caliber guns, magazines with capacities of eleven or more rounds, "assault weapons," etc., a signature issue of his. It is he, in fact, who I credit with inspiring me to get such a firearm. There's just something about being told that one must be prevented from owning some item, that makes that item all that much more desirable.

Actually turning my ".50 caliber protest" into reality was a long road, with numerous twists and detours, but the destination has now been reached. I present (drum roll, please) . . . Kotowski's Lament:

Clearly, I'm no photographer.

Here's another shot, with the dreaded "high capacity" magazine (designed to hold 90 rounds of .223/5.56mm, but can be used to hold 34 rounds of .50 Beowulf--although it's not full in the picture).

Well, do you like it, Dan? Come down to this part of the state and go to the range with me--I'll make a shooter out of you yet.

Don't know yet. Just brought it home yesterday. Don't know when I'll get to the range. With the muzzle brake, I don't think it will be too bad (I know--famous last words).

famous last words indeed ... right up there with:

and
"Hey guys! WATCH THIS!"

Good luck though!

Well, if that's how you're going to be, I guess I won't even ask your opinion on whether or not the bottom rail is long enough to accommodate this.

Just kidding.

That is beyond all shadow of a doubt absolutely beautiful.

Thanks guys--I'm pretty tickled with the thing. Depending on how it does at the range, I might come to consider it my ultimate "wheelchair defense gun."

Some day, I hope to scrape up enough money to buy a second upper receiver, in 6.5mm Grendel, for long range shooting. The Beowulf/Grendel switch-top--now that would be cool.

Whoa, you really hit the grand trifecta there. I really thought something like that would be 20 kinds of illegal in the People's Republic of Illinois. I bet that'd make for a dandy close-quarter battle weapon, even with that shorter barrel.

Haha, and I just caught what you were getting at there...

That it's still legal here is certainly not due to lack of effort on the part of the enemy. I would say that it is largely due to a great deal of very hard work by my friends at Illinois Carry.

As for it's efficacy for CQB, I think it has real potential, especially for wheelchair-bound folks like me. I think it needs a sling, though.

Well, Alexander Arms apparently developed both calibers, so I guess you and I aren't the first to like the idea of linking the two.

Good! Though ... a think that a clip-fed 12ga might be a better choice for a Close Quarter weapon... but last time I checked the AA-12 wasn't available in pistol form...

Bravo and the flare launcher would be a nice touch.

Kurt '45superman' Hofmann said...

Now you've gone and done it, Chef--got me pining for the AA-12 again. That's just mean.

Dam nice congratz

It's okay 45 ... I want one to.

It would make an excellent anti-zombie weapon.

In addition to owning the most kick-ass pistol I've ever seen, you can also CC that sucker?

Kurt '45superman' Hofmann said...

I don't think I'll try that, TJH--at least if I'm not wearing a tent.

You should not have something so clearly black and evil. I demand that you get rid of it immediately.

Now, let me give you my address so that you know where to send it. I will be happy to take care of it for you ;)

Kurt '45superman' Hofmann said...

I cannot inflict this evil upon you, Harrkev. This darkness is mine alone to bear.

That is one awesome build. Two things, what is the unit mounted on the left side of the rail and don't forget to set the wheel brakes before you fire it. ;-p

A Streamlight TLR-1.

I have an AimSHOT green laser on the right rail.

. . . and don't forget to set the wheel brakes before you fire it.

And give up my wheelchair-in-reverse speed record dreams?

Very, very nice. Just remember, safety first...

...then pull the trigger.

Great for "First Response!" In time of need, procuring ammo for that fine weapon might not be simple.

In that case, as is well-known amongst "small warriors" (guerrillas), obtain weapons and ammo from the enemy--whether dead or from his storehouses.

In any case, we will not overtly be carrying ("bearing") nor even "keeping."
